By: S’nenhlanhla Mnqayi

Sasol New Signatures calls the people of South Africa to express what is not seen but seen when it is made and that is art.

The Sasol New Signatures art competition is launched, in partnership with Association of Art Pretoria and they are inviting all young artists to rise to the challenge and make their voices heard.

The competition is open to emerging artists who are 18 years and older, and who have never held a solo exhibition before.

According to the Sasol New Signature, this year’s competition has new ground rules that are set to improve the artists’ work and they will offer feedback sessions at various selection points countrywide.

“In order to further solidify the support of visual arts in South Africa, the competition organisers have rethought the strategy of the competition for 2016.  Besides the information sessions which are offered countrywide, feedback sessions at the various selection points have been introduced in order to further strengthen the educational value that the competition brings to young South African visual artists.”

This newly introduced session will be held by the National Chairperson along with selectors and they will be available after the selection process to enter into discussions with the entrants as to why certain entries were accepted or rejected.

Sasol New Signature, also said that, “It is through these feedback sessions that entrants are given the opportunity to grow and learn from the experience of entering one of the biggest visual art competitions in South Africa.”

The winner will receive R100 000 and a solo exhibition at the Pretoria Art Museum, whilst the runner up gets R25 000 and the 5 merit awards winners each receiving R10 000.

It is said that, the top seven art works must be available for exhibition and promotional purposes for at least 12 months immediately after the exhibition.

Artists who are up for the challenge to express their creativity behind chemistry can submit their art work at one of the several selection points around the country on the 21st-22nd of June 2016 and for more information you can visit this website,
