World’s Largest Floating Book Fair in Durban

Book fans have so many choices as the floating book fair; the Logos Hope is docked in Durban.

The ship is currently docked at the Port of Durban, Nelson Mandela Cruise Terminal till 2 June 2024.

Durban Tourism will utilise this time to do activations with interesting activities that will promote Durban as a world-class cruise port destination.

Those that visit the Logos Hope will be spoilt for choice with a huge selection of over 5,000 books that cover a wide range of subject matter including science, sports, hobbies, cookery, arts, medicine, languages, and faith at affordable prices. The book selection also includes children’s titles, academic texts, dictionaries, atlases, notebooks and more.

Visitors can experience the deck which is open for the public to explore, the welcome area, which introduces the ship through a short film and interactive displays and an international café where you can enjoy a range of drinks and treats.

There have been over 30 cruise ships docked in Durban at the recently launched Nelson Mandela Terminal.

‘’We are expecting the numbers to grow as approximately seven ships are expected in May,’’ said eThekwini Municipality Mayor Councillor Mxolisi Kaunda.

Mayor Kaunda noted that the average cruise tourist spends in excess US100 dollars while on shore.

The opening days and hours for Logos Hope are Tuesdays to Saturdays from 11am to 8pm. On Sundays the ship opens at 1pm and closes 8pm. She is closed on Mondays. Entrance fee for the ship is R10 per person. Children under 12 and seniors over 60 years of age enter free.

From 24 May to 2 June the Book Fair will open for school visits. The visits must be pre-booked. Learners from Grade 4 and above are invited to book and each group of 10 students requiring supervision by at least one adult or teacher.
