This writing workshop will be from 9 to 10 April and the aim of it is to improve the skills of first-time authors. Only residents of eThekwini can apply for this workshop.

‘’The workshop was initiated because there are not enough local stories that are being told by South Africans. This workshop encourages participants to write about history and different experiences that we encounter as South Africans,’’ said Acting Deputy Head of Sports Development and Recreation Sindi Shangase.

The workshop will be conducted in English and can accommodate a maximum of 20 successful applicants.

For those that would like to apply you need to be a first-time writer and be 16 years and older. If you would like to apply you will also need to submit a one-page letter of motivation outlining why you would like to attend the workshop and you will also need to submit a fictional short story of between 2 500 and 3 500 words.

Articulate Africa is the flagship literary and art fair of the eThekwini Municipality. It is one of the key projects in Durban’s UNESCO City of Literature designation which aims to showcase the City’s talent in various creative fields.

Deadline to submit an application is Friday, 22 March at 4pm.

Aspiring authors can email Rene.Harry@durban.gov.za  for application forms or for more information on the workshop.
